One thing to remember, they let more air IN. Thats good if your wanting power for a short time. Pulling, racing etc. Next thing to think about, more air means less filtration, less filtration means more dirt, more dirt means cylinder scoring. My opinion go with a good paper filter with the hogs hair on it. I use fram air filters for that reason. I ran a K&N for a while and got 0-nil-zippo mileage or HP out of it. I never thought about the air in/dirt in until the old man at the (real parts) store explained it out.
