this is a repeat request for info as first try seems to have gone missing with the block of missing posts to this board. I have a 1940 Cletrac EG-42 with Hercules 00C engine. Flywheel is marked at TDC and also at approx 25 degrees BTDC. What is the spark timing supposed to be set to? Ignition is via a Fairbanks X4A2 magneto.

Timing-Correct magneto timing is 24degrees or 3"before top dead cnter. This cooesponds to the large, center punch mark on front face of flywheel. Crank engine until No.1 piston is coming up on compression and align center punch mark on flywheel with center line of timing plug hole. the timing hole os right above where the starter would be. hope this helps Spark

The 25 btc mark is for the diesel version of this engine. I can't find the exact machine but gasoline timing should be 9 btc or close to it.

I will look it up in an A Cletrac book today.
