Well, we went first thing to look at the dozer and ended up with a package deal.. AC dozer with what he called a Baker Blade ( Vertical cylinders, sort of roll bar looking connector between left and right), VAC Case with JD #2 sickle bar, and a neat little buzz saw with belt, etc.

The gentleman had put the AC away in a shed 5 years ago, covered it with a tarp or two, and a can over the exhaust. We uncovered it, put a battery and gas in it and it popped right over in a heartbeat. Wow!. The hydraulic blade went up after we taped together the return hose and filled up the resevoir. Lots of flying dusties everywhere, and a wee bit of smoke too. Best part was it drove itself out of the shed, the clutches and brakes all work fine. I was very impressed. No discernable wear on the pins, the track chain looks a LOT better than my D4 , and the grousers look almost new. The blade still has some original paint on it and no dents. Seems the old guy bought it when it was 5 years old from a man who rented it out to skid logs with, and only played with it for the last few decades. Never did any serious work with it. Unfortunately at one point it had caught fire, and all the gages and the seat cushions are missing after that event. We didn't want to get into a discussion on what year , etc. it was really, you know how you don't want to upset the ole guy by telling him it wasn't what he said, but he has the original manuals for it and we will see them when we pick it up. Couldn't find a serial number anywhere . It was originally a dual fuel model, but he said he had put NON kerosene rings in it right before he parked it. It is definitely a little smaller than my old 40's D4. the blade is 8 foot, and sits outside of the tracks. Any guesses? I can't wait to start having fun!( Of course a few fluids and hoses will be replaced first!)
Thanks for the moral support on the purchase, guys!

Truck, it definitly sounds like a model M with a baker blade. If you look down next to the right steering clutch on the flat surface of the transmission cover you'll find the serial number. If it is a real early model, it will be by, or on, the main clutch inspection cover. You mentioned that it was a dual fuel, where is the starting tank located (the small gas tank)? If it is up in the front right corner of the hood, it's an early model, the later models had the starting tank right in front of the operator. Being you said the blade it 8' wide, i'm assuming it's a wide gage, but the best way to tell is to just look at the distance between the track and the main unit. The standard gage will have about 2-3 inches of clearence, where as, the wide will have 8-10. I might have a radiator cap. Let me know what you find out. If you can send a picture of it, that would help, but I'm allmost possitive that what you have is a wide gage M.

You mentioned an AC crawler is now yours. You mentioned verticle cylinders, Did you get a x model of the Allis. Baker made the HD9x and the blade was built on the nose of the tractor. They made them for the series 9, 15 etc. My 9B is a baker hydraulics with wehr blade.

Take a look at my site www.ibdozing.dom. I have several AC crawlers up that that I own.

According to all the M pictures I have seen on the net, it is most likely an M. The blade pivots off the rails near the back of the machine, but the cylinders are vertical near the middle of the track, and the pistons point up. There is a hoop that connects the two sides, going over the center about 7 feet off the ground. It looks like a kind of ROPS. Exhaust and carb are on the left, 4 speed, hand clutch, brake pedals, two track clutch levers. Dual fuel tanks. We will find out when we get the manual, probably tomorrow. Any idea where we could find a radiator cap? It is oval, held on by a wire bail like a brake master cylinder on any 70's car.
