I ordered the service manual once I looked in the housing for the clutch/brake unit. Tried to adjust the brake up tigher per the operator manual instructions, but it's already taken up the whole way. What all has to come off to replace the band? Looks like there isn't enough room to go in from the top. Be glad to hear from someone who's been there before...

Mark

when you get the bands out take them to a clutch and brake shop and have them relined will save you about 75% of JD price

Glenn is right - you have to remove the final drive in order to change the brake band (over $100 each). But you need to make sure that the adjustment is such that the steering clutch is releasing before the brake is applied. I have replaced these bands and clutches a few times. I too have a JD 350B.

Good Luck!

Bill

Part of the brake band adjustment is done through a cover plate on the side of the dozer just above the track. Remove the cover and thighten the bolt 1 or 2 notches. basic adjustment on top is [1] throw-out bearing release then brake band applys.

Well your in for ALOT of work. The track has to come off,the sproket has to come off, then the final drive has to come out.lots for heavy work. Are you shure the steering clutch is dis-
engaged?

Yes. There is a slight bite on the brake and I can steer the tractor, but it's not the way it should be. The band on that side just doesn't adjust up like the other side did. At first I though something was stuck, but it loosens up just fine. I have reached a compromise with the adjustment so that it will push the brake further than than normal (running the adjustment bolt further in), and I can get some more adjustment there, but if possible I'd like to fix the thing up properly... Sounds like it will be a big job.

Mark, I was curious as to how you made out with the brake band on your 350B? I just picked up the same machine and seem to have the same problem. It bites a little but not as good as the other side, especially on down hills. Can't figure it out, Let me know what you did. THANKS, Steve
