Have been wondering about a crawler for tillage work here at home. Am not too interested in an older crawler due to maintenance, also need a lighter tractor than most of the ones I see. Has anyone any experience with Landini or Fiat crawlwers? I mean Fiat, not Fiat-Allis. They were sold through Hesston a few years ago and wondered if there were many around.

Tom - Fiats in general are quite a robust and reliable unit, but they have a drawback that I hate: They seem to specialize in fine thread bolts everywhere, which becomes a real pain when it comes to working on 'em. It becomes a bigger problem if you have corrosive conditions, 'cos rusted fine thread bolts are a nightmare. Just my 2 cents worth.

Tom, if you're looking for a light crawler, there's a Universal 445 in the Ontario Farmer. I think the decimal place in the price is wrong, but.....
I used one a few years back, and there are a couple in the area. Steering clutches where a problem, and one fellow tore his 3 pt. off while subsoiling. I haven't seen any Landini's around.

What kind of soil & what terrain? How many acres?

Try and get over to the Bradford Marsh and see what those boys are using... It's been almost 20 years since I've been up there, but they'll know what works and where to get it.
