I am about to re assemble a 4 cyl inter diesel motor in a 500 series track loader. The problem is that when turning the crankshaft(note, only the camshaft has been removed) I cannot get the factory dots on the other timing gears to line up, to allow the correct cam timing to be set. I have heard that if I turn the crank a number of times, then eventually the dots on the crank, idler and injector pump gear will eventually line up due to the ratio of the idler gear, which will then allow the cam to be set in the correct phase (ie not 180deg out) any one got any ideas? many thanks, pete de vries

I am getting ready to post some pictures late today or tommorw from Ben who has fully rebuilt an IH 500 series motor. You ought to see the pictures. This thing was in bad shape and now it looks just great. You can e-mail Ben and he should be able to help you out. The url for the pictures is www.ibdozing.com. Go to the show n tell section guest project and the IH 500 will be listed there.

Also I have a number of guys from Australia that have posted their pictures to the site. I have a link to a very good website for crawlers run by Glen Simpson.

On the flip side I have two Drott machines and really like them a lot

Thanks

wk
