Anyone have any idea what a Cat D2 that is not running would be worth if you have to haul it four hundred miles?

Seller says both engines seem to have compression.

I think he said its a 1935 model Thanks, Sonny

Other than that, what is S/N prefix? 3J, 5J ? And what is general shape is it in? i.e. rollers, track pads/pins/chain? Reach up and in between the links and feel the bushings for flat spots(wear), if 1/8" grooves, pins will need turned.. if rollers wobble, then new bushings,,etc

This my oppinion

The D2 is not worth much. If the pony motor works you could get several hundered out of that. If not the engine parts are impossible to find and the clutch parts for that machine are non-extant--do not exist anywhere any longer.

I would say that they should pay you to take it off of their hands. Your shipping costs will be alone at 400 mile at $2.50 per mile will be 1000 + any load time that the trucker will charge to get it loaded.

The max that I would offer would be salvage weight of the tractor. Salvage wt for cast is around $10 per ton here right now or no more than $100.

You would have more value, a better machine and can find parts for an IH TD9 that has a disassembled motor than than that Cat and have it trucked it.

Bill said that the clutch parts are non exsistant but he is wrong. you can buy the Cat D2 clutches straight from Caterpillar.

D2 Parts are easy to get. I am in the process of restoring one. Clutch parts are still availiable but are expensive. Price depends on what comes with it, etc.
