I have purchased a unit that the previous owner says is an international 500 skidder. The model #16S serial #HTS 1147 T. The tag on the engine block says made in Canada. It has three tires on each side with a track assembly wrapped around them, a pto, and a draw bar and a straight blade. Is this really what this animal is and where might I find more track? The previous guy said there might not be enough. He also said to assemble it with grade 8 bolts. some one else tried to talk me out of grade 8 and into 5. I think 8 is a better idea. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dale,
I don't know the model #, but I know IH made a skidder just like you are describing. It had three wheels on each side with a track around them. It had a dozer blade on front, and what you describe as a PTO I believe is the winch drive. I own a winch that came off of one of these. I saw the carcass and it is as you describe. I don't know how much else was left, I think the ROPS and sweeps were there, as well as the frame, but I don't remember if there were any tracks sitting there. As far as grade 8 bolts, I can't believe anyone recommending grade 5 instead of grade 8. Other than being more expensive there is no drawback to using them. Play it safe, use the grade 8.

When working with tracks, we always use grade 8. Copper coat adds a significant lubricant that I would like to see in a lot of places. If you have trouble determining the serial # and series of your tractor try to hang in there and keep posting

Some say to use Grade 5 because when it breaks it's easier to "drill/easy out" remove.Something to consider if you think it might let go from hard use....
