I am a beginer in crawlers and dozers, this is my first dozer. I would appreciate it if anyone can help me out. I just purchased a Td9 skid shovel. I started operating the crawler to learn how to opearate it. every thing went smooth. the crawler worked great. when I tried restarting the pony moter I noticed a smell of gas then as I pressed on the start butten fire came out of the exaust pipe then I noticed fire in the engine next to the gas valve. I quickly extingwished it with water it seemed to me that there is a small leak where this gas valve is and the wire that goes to the start switch might have been melted exposing the wire to the gas and when I pressed the start butten the gas ignited. conseqently all wires got crisped and burned. these wires look like spark plug wires from a car. can anyone tell me where I can get a set of these wires. and can anyone tell me if I may have cased any extensive and expensive damage to my newly aquired TD9 crawler
I am from Santa Fe' New Mexico USA any one no where I can get parts close by. Thanks in advanse.

Joe

Joe,
I had a similar problem two years ago. I had recently purchased a TD9, and a loose wire from the battery (which had no purpose that I could see) arced on the fuel line and started the side of the engine on fire. It sure is fun putting out a fire with handfuls of dirt! It burned off the dist. cap and all of the wiring.

I replaced the plug wires with an ordinary plug wire kit, and used a standard IHC battery ignition dist. cap. If all of the wires are disconnected, save yourself some frustration by checking the timing by finding TDC of the #1 cylinder. I spent a lot of time trying to get mine to start before I checked the timing and found that the distributor was turned so that the #4 wire needs to be in the hole marked #1 on the cap. Also, the dist. rotation is CCW. Good Luck!

First Do not panic.

The TD9-91 used the UD350 engine. All of the wiring for the engine was on the right hand side when you sit from the rear. The carb may have leaked a bit or the drain valve may not have been fully closed.

The wires that you are worred about can be used from any old IH tractor. There are spark plug wires to each cylinder. Just make sure that you get the right wire to the right plug. You will want to make sure the distributor cap is ok, not cracked etc, and that there is still grease on the interior by the rotor.

Re wire the girl and go have fun.

Thanks
