Have you ever checked out Struck Dozers?http://www.struckcorp.com/ They are compact, yet powerfull, and you dont need a extra heavy truck and trailer to move them around. Go to the website and request info on the Magnatrac 5000 hydro, with attachments, also check out the owner stories there. I have had alot of fun, and accomplished some impressive excavating projects with all of my Struck equipment.

I have a older Allis HD6 crawler loader for sale. If you want to know more about it send me an email. I live in Kansas.

What do you mean by small? Old D-2s are small and a great toy, you get to fire up the pony motor and get the main running (10 or 15 minutes play before you even get on the machine), they have that wonderful old, low speed diesel sound. You could go with an International that starts the main on gasoline and switchs to diesel again alot of fun and good diesel sound. John Deere built the 440s with a GM/Detroit 2-53 electric start, easy to get parts for, scream'en Jimmy sound. Allis Chamler's HD-5/6s with GM/Detroit power or Buda/AC power nice machines, easy to work on, parts are still around but getting out of the small crawler class for me. I lean toward the ACs because I grew up with they and like the sound of a 71 series GM/Detroit in full song.
But get one and have fun!

the jd 350/450 crawlers are excellent machines. the older ones are priced right. and they can still do a full day of work.

Hi Lee, Your in my thinking area. I like the older equipment and yep that sound. My Dad bought a 37 AC, what model I have no idea, that he started with a 15" cresent wrench, no pony. I was only around the crawler for a short time but I really liked it. Since I just want to play and really don't have a use for one, I was thinking collectable and small.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Allis Chalmers HD-5s were popular machines. Parts seem fairly easy to get. They weigh in at about 12000 pounds. I pull one with my Crew Cab Dueley.

You didn't say how much money you'd like to spend,If it were me looking I'd find me a JD 350 with a loader, you can do a lot of work,or in your case a lot of playing and when you get done playing It's still saleable----thats my nickles worth-- -----Jim in N M

Myself I'ld have to have a 4-in-1 on that loader.

If looking at new toys, check-out the new ED-180 KOBELCO, it's a Track-hoe [hyd. excavator] with a 6-Way dozer blade, 41,000 lb. operating weight, 103 hp. cummins turbo, put a thumb on it and this One Machine Will Do It All--I'll have to bide my time and watch for one with a few thousand hours, Someday??? maybe! *grin*

Hi Jim, Man if thats your definition of small, I'm in trouble. :) I was thinking of a smaller diesel unit that I don't have to have a low-boy to trailer. I'm just not that up on crawlers to know what I want. I'm probably looking for something simple.
