I see a lot more high tracks in our area, what is the reason for Cats High Track? I have heard a lot of good from different contractors in our area. I am thinking of buying a used D6 or D7 high track.

I have a D6H with about 7500 hrs on it with any problems. I like the power, diff. steer of the machine compared to the pedals. I am very satisfied with my high tracks. I haven't had a lick of problems with the D6R either.

I'm a dedicated Cat owner, but the hightracks just don't impress me. Cat had a good idea, but I don't think it turned out as good as they thought it would. Pins/bush wear out faster and you can't wear them down as much as you can on the oval undercarriage. I have 4 D8K's and they are getting on up there in hours (averaging about 30,000 frame hours each). In a few more years I will have to part with them and I'm considering seriously getting a few Komatsu dozers to replace them. Now Cat is right on track with the rest of their equipment, as my 953's and 63's give me good service. Cat definitely builds the best track loaders, but should at least offer an oval track D7 and D8 along with the high track. Those are just my thoughts.

you ought to go to the discussion board at ibdozing.com. In the Cat discussion board there has been a running battle over the hightrack vs the good old oval track it started in the lack of post section for that forum.

You might like it. Interesting reading.
