How do you take the cover off the final drive case? I've removed all bolts and the alignment pins are loose, but the cover won't slide off. Is there a trick I'm missing or is it just a matter of brute force?

CAREFUL, don't force this one until you understand.

I assume the cover you mentioned is the two part housing that contaions the pinion and bull gear. There are tapered bearings holding this assemble together via the bull gear shaft that the sprocket is attached to.

You must remove the final drive from the machine first. Then you will see the backside of the shaft.

Good luck.

Garry - Yes, there is a trick. I think you will find you have to unbolt the steering clutch to remove the F/D housing. I am not 100% familiar with the setup, just relying on memory. You are probably better off posting your question on>Link
Whatever you do, don't force it!
