You know the steel light guards on the radiator shields of small crawlers, like JD MC, 40C, 420C, 430C? Why did JD put a 90 degree angle bent piece of round stock or rebar on the inside of these? JD part # AM2097/8T, the parts book shows it with the round angle piece. What is the functional purpose? On side mounted lights, the JD parts book shows the 90 degree round stock angle piece on the bottom; like you were to switch sides. Any one know what it's for? Any of you have or see other makes of crawlers come with these light guards with the same angled round stock welded on? Tony O.

That is what the headlight mounts to. Just like it mounts to a round rod if you have the regular light brackets. The M1482 bracket clamps to it.
