I'm looking for a small crawler and today I looked at a nice orchard model cat 22. It has the orchard fenders, louvered side panels over the engine, a "streamlined" air intake and the exhaust is plumbed out underneath. The body is in great shape and it runs good but the bushings are shot! worn clean through. Is there anywhere to get another set of tracks for it (narrow)? What would be a fair price for this crawler and for a set of tracks?

Also I noticed that the other 22's I've seen have "Twenty Two" above the grill and "Catapillar" down the side of the radiator. This one is just the opposite. Does that mean anything? I'm guessing it may be a later one because there is a place to mount a starter.

The Pins and bushings will cost at least $500. Then you will have to have them pressed out and back, this is no easy task. Nor is it cheap.

If you want a Small dozer, look for a newer model Cat or JD. The 22 are a great machine but, at this stage in the century the parts are becoming a issue. If you can fix it yourself, buy it. If not let it lay.

If the pins, bushings, and rails are shot, the cat
is worth what it will cost you to haul it away.
A new set of rails with 50% left will cost you
as much as the cat is worth. I'd find a set of rails and price them before I'd buy it. Check the bottom rolls too, they might be worn out, then you do have an expense. Good Luck
