One of the tips from the IBDOZING website suggested using an impulse sprinkler, the kind that you stick in the ground and adjust it to sweep your undercarraige, turn it on an go have a beer or two. Never tried it as water is a scarce commodity around here.

i use a 1-1/2 hose 1 in tip and low rpm but if i need it i sure can crank it up for the big stuff. it sure moves a lot of dirt and i can stand back so i don't get wet

this is a real pain with red clay. this is the best that i came up with. get a good gas water pump that will pump 50 gals. plus and 50 lb. preasure or more. i am on a fire dept and got a old portable fire pump works great if you got a water supply. if not then you can dig that pond you want!its not the preasure that work well but the volume of water. i wash the hole cat down once a month. engine and under the oil pan. dirt sure likes to get in there. stones make holes in oil pans on case crawlers from vibration

Yeh, let someone else do it. That's the feelling I used to get when customers would bring their crawlers in for service for I used to always clean their unit over completely before I worked on it. I considered it like a feather, I thought they would be happy and it gave me a chance to really look over their unit and let the unit tell its care and maybe show some other needed work so that the customer wouldn't come back and say that it wasn't broke there before he brought it in. It really brought back repeat business. Sorry to get so much of track.

Hi Max, I've been doing a lot of dirt moveing the last few days, and some of it was sloppy mud. I've always been told that it's good to clean the tracks a couple times a day when in mud, but i just have a hard time seeing how it could help much. You don't go 50' and they are full of mud again!!! Any thoughts on this?? Robert

Hi there, My 450 has the 208 engine in it, and it's been a great engine. I've often thought of what i'd do if it puked, and i don't see why a 65 HP Deutz air/oil cooled engine wouldn't be a great dozer engine. Looks to me like it would be a easy swap, and there are Deutz 6206 and 6806 tractors around with good usable engines. Over the years i've had excelent service out of Deutz air/oil cooled engines, and i'm of the opinion they are one of the best diesel engines ever made!! BTW, i'll be guarding mine!! :) Robert

Sorry I got so far off in telling another story, I used to used a long prybar to get most of it out. From the pic, is that open center grousers on that sweet lookin 450? I never thought much of those as being self cleaning back in that black gumbo soil of NW Indiana. I never found a real good way to keep those clean except clean more often.

Hi again, Well, there's NOTHING on my u/c that's self cleaning that i can see!! :) The guys that suggested high volume water, is a great idea!! I have a Kubota 4" pump and 2" exhaust hose. I'm going to bell reduce that to 1", and throttle it back!! I have ponds to pump out of, so it sounds like a good idea to try!! I have pressure washed them, and it does a great job! Problem is, i get a bath along with the u/c!! Thanks to all for the replys!! Robert

Fire hose. I use my 2inch Honda fertlizer pump and a 3/4inch nozzel that cam locks in the hose. I throw one end in the pond and hang on.(don't go hog wild as that hose can whip even with my little pump. Beets a presure washer any day.
