Does anyone know anything about Hitachi dozers and their parts availability? I understand that they are a "grey market" item, not sold in N. America, but imported used.

Hitachi did build a dozer back in 1968 or so with their own engine. Parts are not available for these engines and the last I knew, there was one in Michigan needing a piston. As of late, Deere builds their dozers for them, same as domestic, with Hitachi stickers. You will see some go through a Richie Brothers Auction on occasion. Do you have a model number and serial number? I know the Hitachi rep.

Well I spend most every day dealing with Hitachi excavators and I wouldn`t call their dozer a gray market, how about a "no" market. Hitachi joint ventures with a lot of people for Europe and Asia. Fiat-Aliis for one. I honestly don`t know where you would find parts for one. I have seen ONE Hitachi loader and the parts for that can be had from John Deere as it is the same basic machine. I have never seen a dozer from Hitachi, pictures yes, the machine, never. Should you have your heart set on this machine, GOOD LUCK!!!!!

The one I saw (the model sticker was rubbed off) looked a little smaller than a D-6. No power shift and has a 4 cylinder engine. Someone told me the small John Deere dozers are MAYBE made by Hitachi. I saw on the web that FIAT-HITACHI is sold in Europe, perhaps made in Turin, Italy. They look similar to the one I saw. I thought that maybe if one could find out where it was sold new, then one could order parts, even if it is from Europe. The world is a lot smaller now than it used to be, thanks to the net. If anyone from Europe would have some insight, it would be appreciated. By the way, this machine is priced pretty cheap, hence my interest! Steve
