I would guess between a D6C and a D7. Where I work demo'd a 850 because the lease on the D7 high track was about up. The thought they would save on fuel. The 7 has about a 16ft blade used to push pulpwood chips. The 850 was not big enough to keep up with needs. I doen't think it was heavy enough for the bigger blade either. Operating wise the operators seemed to like it.

The 850 john deere is comparable to aD7 the 750JD is equel to a D6D ,Back in the late 70's to earlie80's I ran and Oil Field Service CO. We had 4 D6D ,6 750 JD 4 850 JD's the 750's would bury the D6D even after we had Cat come in and turn them up a whole bunch and the 850 was in a class buy itself. In my oppion , the John Deere 750-850 dozers are grate they are the first dozer that work at the speed that i personaly like.

I am about to go inspect a 1981 JD 850 with a new engine, splitterbox, radiator, and hydrolic pump. It has 5,000 hours on it. Owner says it's in good shape and is out on short term lease right now.

Do you know anything I need to check on the hydrostat transmission. Have never been around one of these.

What is that speed, broke down all the time. Sur the JD dozers where great when the trans. was working properly. I will agree that the Deere would probally back up faster than the Cat but at the end of the day and when the dust settles who has the biggest pile, CAT

Well ,at the end of the day we would have two locations built with one deere as one location to the cat, the owner of the company and i went to build a tough one he took the best cat we had i took the oldest 750 lever steer ,he could not believe that he just spent 129,640 bucks on a dog a dead dog or should i say catour deeres only cost us about 84000 fully equiped with 10foot tilt blade and hister w6f winches limb riser and extra lightingand forestery package my favorte one was the third one we got in with pedel steer it had about 50%more then the rest. NOW don't get me wroung ,I use to like cats till i ran the vary first 750 ever in the patch it worked at the speed that i liked nodecelarator no shifting under load just move the lever from fuul foward to fullreverse the hydro unites did the rest ground speed for toqureand back to speed noshift from one to two and back down to one .You are blind toinovationcome into the light

Have you run the new 850 series 2? I run one for about 2 or 3 hours and then I got back in the Cat.
Deeres new transmission is junk. You have your forward and reverse than you have a button the adjust the flow of the hydrostat that speeds it up. The only tthing I can see that the Deere has over A D6R is that it will back up faster. It will not push like a 6R. Clearing brush the Deere will have a bigger pile b/c of the fast ground speed. When you go to dirt, you might as well park the Deere.

No the newest that i have been on is the (B) sieries so idonot clame to be an expert on anything past that just know what i am use to the more engineners try to make it better the more they screw thing up if they would talk with us dumb fokes to get some insight them thing would be better .Case in point has anyone ever changed the fuel filter on a newer dodge with a cummins? you have to be a contorenest or change the return fuel line . Or put and o?ring in the right Hydro motor in a 750 or 850 Deere . i rest my case.

I have changed a fuel filter in a new Dodge that is all we run for company trucks. That is the easiest thing to do.

Why is it when someone say's " IN MY OPINION" someone alway's has to act like the statement was chiseled in stone, the tractor vet was just giving us his opinion, Just once it would be nice if someone could make a comment about what they like and dislike with out someone jumping them about brand prefferences, they ALL have there good points and bad points.
In my area Cat's and JD's are everywhere, one company owns a older 350, they demoed a new D4 and the operators didn't like it, they totaly rebuilt the 350 and it stiil going today, another company had to JD dozers and traded them in on cats because of the warranty the dealer offered. Opinions are like a@#holes, everyones got one, deal with it, It's just like the Ford, Chevy and Dodge argument, I like all 3, but drive a ford because they affordable, the Chevy and Dodge boy's think that the rust on theres is made of gold according to their prices. JUST MY OPINION. NUF SAID
