I have a 1968 4500 TBL tractor.I bought the ford
service manual but the steering section says to
see the 5000 series for information.
Not gonna buy another manual so does anyone know
how to check or adjust the pump? The pump has one
input line & two smaller hi pressure lines, why?
It also has two acorn nuts with springs under them for relief pressure, one facing you on the side & a smaller on on the back facing the driver.Which needs to be adjusted to raise pressure?

There is a filter in the reservoir that could be clogged. Also if the machine has been sitting I have seen the kingpins start to seize causing the steering to be stiff

If the power steering pump oil comes from the main hydraulic oil reservoir instead of from a small reservoir right on the power steering pump, which I think is the way a 1968 model is setup, your pump maybe starving for oil. I think the oil line to the pump has a strainer in the oil tank that can get clogged and will affect the steering. It will not build pressure without oil. The input line is probably from the oil reservoir and the two high pressure lines are for a double acting cylinder, one for each direction.
