I am looking at a Link-Belt 4500 excavator. It needs some hydraulic pump work and has a cat inline 6 engine with low hours on the overhaul. Undercarriage looks good and the machine generally looks quite clean. Does anyone know the year, weight, engine model and horsepower of this machine? Also, approximately how much is a machine like this in good working condition worth? Thanks for any info. Steve

LS4500, man that is an old one. If you buy it, buy it by the pound. I don't know of any contractor running one of these anymore. Link Belt is located in Lexington KY. The unit you are looking at was built in Cedar Rapids IA. That facility was closed back in '86 and everything went to KY. Sorry, I did not chase diggers for Link Belt, only their large crawler and tower cranes so I don't know much about LS4500's.

Before you buy this, get a good estimate on what the hyd. repairs are going to cost. Its not hard to drop $10,000 or more in having a set of pumps rebuilt or replaced if needed. Not to mention any other damage done to the hyd. system if the pump is starting to come apart and putting steel thru the rest of the system.
