Power shuttle? Hydrostat? Did the noise just start after some kind of maintenance?

reply to max;hydrostatic trans.has had considerable slip for a long time but no unusual noise.however the machine sat idle for six months. there has been no repair. noise is not in transmission.it eminates under the hood.can it be a relief valve noise. if so where would i look. thanks ole chief

More than likly it could be your fan blades hitting the shroud.Check your water pump it might be have the bearing coming out of it.
As for a relief the system is an open centre so until you dead end a cylinder or over load a function the relief shouldnt be working unless you have a spool that is sticking on the loader or the backhoe control valve
