I am looking at a 1969 Allis HD11 Series E dozer and am wondering if its a relatively good machine. Owner says its 155 hp (turbo'd six cyl). Anyone familliar with its strengths, weaknesses or value?

The machine looks really good and undercarriage looks real good. Hydraulic pump was replaced before last job it was on. The machine was last used a little over a year ago before being parked. When it was moved from the last site of use down to the front gate the owner said it wasn't turning well, but would turn. It now after sitting a month doesn't want to turn at all. I doubt the steering cluches would stick in a month so I suspect hydraulics? Any ideas?

If its not something that looks too serious this is a lot of machine for little $$$$.

The HD11 series B was the later production model by AC. The are a strong machine but the weak link in AC is the engine which was the 685T. The Buda designed engine was always the weak link for their stuff.

Through the years they did increase the HP on the motor and that was through the use of a Turbo and other engine enhancements.

Their pedel steer was very good and it was responsive and so were their transmissions but a weak spot in all AC machines is that they were finely engineered. They could not take too much slop or loose fit otherwise things would leak and or fail rapidly. Their lifetime seals were a marvel and worked but if the truck frame was out of alignment just a wee bit they leaked and you could not stop them from leaking.

The rails are available. parts are out there but the balancer pulley is getting hard to find for that motor. Like really tought. Took me a month to find a good one some one in MO.

If the UC is good and it moves well, then go buy it and change all fluids and clean up and put it to work. Should be a good workhorse.

155 hp sounds kinda high. A local dealer has a really sharp one I can send you a pic of that is about that age. It is only 137 hp. It has a rebuilt engine and transmission and new paint. I think they want $30K but would probably take $20K.

Well I'm workin' one o' them bottom dollar deals here and I can have this one for well under $10K.

I've just got to get well informed at what I might be looking at to get it back to steering right to decide whether to roll th' dice on it.

No kiddin', its a good lookin' machine. When I first heard the price I figured it had to be wrong, but low an' behold it was shore 'nuff cheap. I whittled him down some from there.
