Can anyone tell me what year a caterpiller d4 with serial# 7U25709 was manufactured. In addition, if all it needs is a radiator and a gas tank for the pony engine, what is it worth?

Brad,

I don't understand what you mean by a "Year for a birth year"?

Here is a another one for you. Looking at an old dozer that died approx. 15 years ago today. I know its a D4 and the plate on the motor says the serial # is 6U10488

Other than that I know nothing about it. Can anyone tell me what it is and anything about their history.

Thanks,

Chris.

I think Cat made more D-4,s than any other type crawler, Most parts are still available, The 6U in the Ser. Number means the tracks are 44 ins. wide, (Measured between the track links). 7U means the tracks are 60 ins. wide. I think they started making them in the 1930,s.

The Cat D4 7U was made from 3/1/1947 to 11/1/1959.
We own 7U10256 and it has a 1950 casting under the steering clutches. Hope this helps.
