thanks ill check the seals again but the main problem is i cant get the unit that has the seals on it to go back into the cylinder that is inside the spring.the shaft is not centered. what holds the shaft in place ? is it the nut on the back side of the spring? when i try to turn the nut the whole saft turns i got the small bolt out of the end of the shaft and now trying to losen the nut. that shaft is not what holds the spring in is it? should i not try to losen the nut on the back side of the spring. thanks again for your time and info. paul

Paul that is not "A" shaft. It's a bolt that is used to hold the spring compressed till it is in place in the frame. Then the nut is backed off to release the spring. The bolt & nut are now loose/float in there. Again, not being able to see what you see, that bolt or shaft as you call it doesn't have to be straight. Now if the bolt head, that you see, is out of the square hole for it, the piston might not fit. Piston with seals just slips back in the cylinder, just fits in that bore. Again check your seal like I mention in my first post. I'm leaving for Conexpo tomorrow, so what little I might have helped, I can't do anymore if needed till Sat. or Sun.. But I'm sure someone else willl help. HT

Paul, I'm guessing here, but are you calling the piston the small piece with the seal and rings on it (piston) or the hollow piece with the grease fitting and reliese valve on it (cyl).

Paul you're where you can see the adjuster & not anyone else. So here's my thought. If all you are replacing new is the seal it should not be a problem. You have the maim seal on backwards, that is what I think you're doing wrong. The big end of the main seal needs to pointed out from the piston & not in, so to speak. When you have the piston in hand, you should see the groove in the end of the main seal. This is for grease to put pressure on the seal to get it to push out the seal lip tight against the cylinder walls. The shaft you talk about is the spring bolt that just floats in the spring assey. till it's needed to remove the assey.. Your parts book will show more, I think, on how all the parts fit.
Just my $.02 worth. Good Luck HT
