Am looking for a tractor with a frontloader, and back hoe. Would be interested in brands recommended, years which are dependable, and last I am working in about an $8k max. range. My farm is in the flint hills of Kansas, up on a ridge, so lots of rocks, which I would like to move. Also want to use it for pond work, lagoon, and digging ditches for gas, elec., and water lines.

Which make, model, and year would be a good choice?

Also have a "59" 560 Farmall International tractor, gas, 12v. Have heard there is a electronic ignition conversition kit, so I can get a hotter spark, and eliminate the old components under the distributor cap. Am interested since this tractor seems real finicky about starting if not done just right. If the plugs get wet with gas, you can just about forget starting it, without removing the plugs cleaning them completely, or starting with a new set. I have also been told to try gapping the plugs out to 30k vs. 20k as the manual says.

Thanks

If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks I personally like the 79 or later 580C by Case. I like this unit for it is easy to work on, if needed, and during my time as a service tech, these units were pretty durable except for the leaks on the cylinders. I might add, if you are using the hoe, place the transaxle in 'N', had a customer once who pulled up facing a swimming pool, dropped the stabilizers, and started digging. Then he needed to move forward a little so without throttling back, he raised the stabilizers, and went splash into the pool before he could shut it down. The main reason I liked working on them was that I used to be able to do a Transaxle overhaul in eight hours. That even included going through the four speed and remove and reinstall the transaxle back into the tractor. Unlike most older Cases and other brands, the transaxle didn't require the hoe to be removed. The shuttle could be remove without disturbing the transaxle or engine. Another reason I said for a 79 or later unit, these units had the correct timing and were easier to start. Some Fed made case change the timing and fuel delivery because the original 207 wouldn't pass the paper test on the exhaust. Turned out that the 207 was polluting more after the changes were made that they were when they flunked the paper test. Anyway the 79 models and later would pass the paper test, put out less pollutants, and would start easier, which could have been in part to the nympho starter.

Vincent,

About any of the popular TLB'S will do what you want. Case 530, 580
John Deere 301, 401
IHC 2414, 3424, 36##
Ford 3000 series, 500 series.

I have a Massey Ferguson industrial 50. It's the industrial version of a MF-165 with Perkins AD4-203 engine. I rebuilt nearly every thing last year (engine, front axle, spindles, shuttle, final drives, radiator, electric system, etc.)

It has a super heavy loader and I put a backhoe on it off of a CASE 420B. It's a good combination for my farmette needs.

I've heard the backhoes on Massey Ferguson have problems, because they use a hydraulic motor to swing the boom.

I can remove the backhoe in about 45 minutes and reinstall the 3-point hitch lift arms. It also has a PTO. This way I can have a loader tractor all year plus use farm implements on the rear, particularly during haying season.

Thanks for the information gentlemen. I will see what I can find per your recommendations. Do any of these Brands/Models come in diesel, and would you have a recommendation as to which way to go, fuel wise?
