From my personal experience using a JCB backhoe, I'd say they do not compare at all with Case, New Holland or Deere. I used an older model (mid 80's) and not one of the electrical items (lights, fan, wipers, etc.) worked. Motor was reliable enough but the whole machine felt underpowered and off balance.

They are very popular in Ireland . JCB is the generic term for backhoe over there .

I have only seen a few here and I would likely stay away from them .

JCB..... I believe this is the initials for; Junk Comming from Britian. JCB is a company Headquartered in the UK. OK stuff, not well supported in the US. AIS is a dealer in Grand Rapids Michigan.

Well I certainly don`t know all about them, but I have been to 4 different factory service schools for JCB and the paper on the wall says "certified JCB electical" so here is my $.02 worth on them. JCB makes a "good" machine, they just don`t go the extra step to make a REAL "good" machine. They can be and are an electrical nightmare. Especially the 4x4x4 series machine. The reach forklift uses the same steering system so it can be just as screwey to figure out. One of the guys that works up in Reno Nevada used to work for JCB down in Georgia two years ago. He got so fed up with how they covered up their engineering screw up,he quit and came back to work for us in Reno. I ran into him last week at Conexpo and he said he has never been so glad to have quit a job as that one. They have some good ideas, they have some bad ideas. Right now they also lack a good dealer network. We had been a JCB dealer for almost 10 years and they told us, "either sell full line or nothing." We haven`t been a dealer since and that has been going on 3 years now. They still don`t have a dealer and doesn`t look like they will have one any time soon either. And if anyone thins the backhoes are a nightmare to work on, try working on that gem of engineering, their Robot skid steer loader. A bigger nightmare has never been seen. I can fill you in on the rest of their line, but since you asked about backhoes, I tried to stick with them. E-mail me if you would like more info.

There was a post on the main tractor board quite awhile back that talked about one of their models having chronic overheating problems. You might repost your question there and see if you pick up more info.

I've never worked around one so I don't know about the accuracy of the overheating statement. I do know that hardly anyone runs them anymore in this part of the country. (extreme NW California).

Most everything up here is Case, John Deere or CAT.

Hey Allen, not been around them much myself but what I have heard is they are strong, very heavy built, and alot of electrical stuff, think that is what gives the most problems.
