We are overhauling the engine and are replacing the liners. The old liners had brass shims underneath, assuming they were not only spacers but also helped as water seal. The new liner kits came with some steel shims. We were told that we needed .001"-.005" of liner protrusion. Can anyone confirm this.

We measured the the old liners and the shoulders are exactly the same as the new liners and with the same amount of shim as the old shims we would be .020" below the block. Can't figure out how the old ones even sealed at all?

Send serial number to me by email and I will send all the spec. you need. The liner projection is .001 - .005 with no more than .002 difference at four equal spots on liner with liner held down with a tee bar and bolts with equal psi on each bolt a small amount of psi will do. Check projection at 10 oclock 2 oclock 4 oclock and 8 oclock. Jimmy
