Going to look at a HD-3 Allis-Chalmers later today. Price seems reasonable if it's all there and everything works. But, I've never even seen an HD-3 before, so I know nothing about its reputation, weak points, or what it compares to in its size range. Also, one of my book says it weighs 7000 lbs, another book says 8500 lbs. Can anybody tell me what to look for, or look out for? I've got a few hours on older crawlers, so if it starts and drives OK, I'll probably buy it. But sure would like for someone that knows them well to help me out. Thanks in advance!

These are excellent machines,I have two H-3`s
one is a dozer with a six way blade an the other is a puller with the high/low shift, wouldnt sell them for any price. They are very handy
around the farm, yet small enough that i can put them on a trailer and move them myself. GREAT CRAWLERS!

The HD3 machine weights 7,645 pounds with no attachments. Dozer attachment probably another 1,500 pounds, Loader attachment about 2,500 pounds. The machines were made from 1960 to 1968. AC produced about 8,243 of these little guys. They use the engine and drive line from a D-15 farm tractor. They were handy little machines. They used a foot clutch and shuttle shift. I have an HD3 loader that I rescued last November. It had been sitting more that 25 years, without the engine. Haven't made up my mind as to what to do with it yet. Let me know how you make out. Phil
