D6 sprocket

I have a d6 8u. One of the spokes on the sprocket is cracked, what ac welding rod can I use to weld it?

Hi Frank,
Another bit of advise is to pre-heat the area to be welded with a torch,weld indoors if possible or out of the wind, and after welding cover up the entire sprocket with fireproof blanket to keep the sprocket warm as long as possible to minimize cooling too quickly which will prevent fractures in the weld.

I had the same problem. I v'eed out the crack and went in with low hydrogen, 7018 rod. Use DC straight polarity and the job will succeed. The sprocket is cast steel, I believe, and you don't have the difficulty you might have with cast iron. Give it a go.

Use a die grinder and V out the crack, 7018 works just fine. Good luck!
