I have a JD 1010 dozer that I bought.
It had been sitting for some time the machine runs great foward and backward however it won't
turn right or left.and when I do pull the levers back it will stall the moter out. I think its the
clutches is there any way of telling or freeing them up without tearing into the final drive.
THANK YOU AL JONES

Jack the dozer into the air so the tracks can spin freely. With a rope tie back both steering levers to the point where the brake bans lightly grab so as to warm up the steering clutch. Hopfully the heat will transfer to the plates and cause them to expand and disengage from the fiber clutch plates.

Al,
On occasion they will break loose if you push against something real hard, but the lion's share of the time you will have to pull the finals and peel one plate at a time out of the brake drum. In severe case, I have had to destroy them getting them out because they are so stuck together. If they will come apart easily, you can buff them off and re-use them, usually the steels will clean up in a bead blaster.
I have new parts listed on my website if you need them.
