I have a 1986 D3B that I bought at an auction March 12, 2002. I had a problem with the L/H steering clutch that Bob/Ont helped me fix. Thanks Again Bob. Having a lot of fun and getting some work done too! This is my first dozer. What should I run the throttle at? Don't want to run the machine too hard, but don't know what too hard is either.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,
Your D-3 has 318 cu.in 3204 2 ring piston engine,when these engines accumulate between 7000 and 10000 hrs.they tend to consume alot of oil.You
should check your oil every 4 hours of hard service if your exhaust is smoking blue. These engines do not have liners, the bores can be machined and re-sleeved and 3-ring aftermarket pistons are available. If your engine smokes don't push too hard as I have seen broken piston skirts on these engines with high hours. In cold weather use ether only when you're turning the engine over with the starter, never spray ether then turn the engine over.

Run her wide open Steve, then when the load comes on it the engine can handel it. You can throttle down in 1st gear for fine light work and it will be okay. Also throttle down for shifting from for. to rev., it will be easier on the trans and you. You have got a tough little machine there Steve, glad you care about it.
Later Bob
