The brakes on my 450 hang up (Stick)after pressing the pedal. I then have to smack the brake lever arm at the slave cylinder with a block and hammer to release. How do I free up the brakes? Also, what is behind the two circular covers aligned with the brake shafts at the back of the transmission? Lastly, are there lubrication points related to the brakes that might need attention?
I wish I could find a reasonable priced copy of the service manual... at a lot less than $300 bucks! thanks Keith

1. Two ways to loosen up the brakes, one is to clean up the pivot pin and lubricate with never sieze and the othe is to replace the return springs on the brake inside the housing.
2. The covers on the fron and rear of the transmission case are the high/low pressure points for the front and both plates have shims under them for setting up preload and alignment for the shafts. The manuals have some very good instructions on how this is set up and kind of justifies the high cost. The manuals used to be printed in house by the Case company printing department and I willing to be that now the manuals are sent out for printing. Good little dozer though if you ever have to rebuild it though, use the 850 tolerances for its the same transmission but the 850 was setup with less slop.

I have Case 450 which has served me well.
I have the original service manual for my machine which is a 1979 model. If you have not located a manual, I could check to see what the cost of reproducing the book at a copy shop. Although well used it is complete and in loose leaf configuration
