D3B Oil Recommendations

What oil should I used in a 1986 D3B for the steering clutches? I just bought a D3B operators manual but it does not show the wet clutches. I thought that I had wet clutches because there was a little oil film on a peice of wire that I put down into the check plug hole. Then I started adding 30W engine oil (I chose 30W because the book shows that for the finals and bevel gears. Is that also correct?) but after 1 1/2 gallons nothing was showing on the wire. I started to get nervous that I was putting oil in dry clutches so I found the drain plug on the bottom and put a 3 gallon plastic pail under there. The bucket filled up and there was still oil coming out when I put the plug back in, so that reaffirmed that I have wet clutches. How much oil does each side hold and is each side independent from the other?
What's the recommend for engine oil? Is 15-40 Chevron o.k.? The only grease fitting that I found was on the drive shaft is that right?
Thanks Steve

Hi Steve,
Each steering clutch holds 28 litres or 7 US gals.
I use Cat 30W driveline oil in my machines, which is not to be used in any engines due to the additives for wet clutch disc material.

Hi Steve, use the same oil as you use in the trans. Oils have evolved since your tractor was built, incase your manuel is not as upto date as it could be I will get you the mil. ( military ) spec for the oils to use everywhere Steve.Cat was the only machine I think that could use the same oil (eng oil) every where, when your machine was built. Oils have changed, engine oil is now too slippery for trans clutches now.
