My brother owns a 655 allis loader. he has used for 6 years building his house and lanscaping.
It has given him almost no trouble even though he
does little to care for it. until now:
problem the left steering clutch will not release
if i understand the problem correctly. if you push
the pedal far enough the brake will try to stop the track but the clutch is still driving.problem
occured after the crawler sat a couple months.
I've got an oliver oc-6 which has nothing like this steering setup. how do i help him ? where should i start? something just out of adjustment? thanks, jeff
ps If i get it running i can borrow it.

I have a AC652. 650 series is the later Industrial ( factory yellow) version of the Orange HD4. Most parts interchange. 652-outside blade, 654 inside blade, 655 gets ya a loader. Most I've seen have dry clutch packs. What you describe, to me, sounds like a rusted/frozen clutch pack. Lever pull to drop power to the track, foot pedal to apply brake to that track? To pull the clutch pack an expierenced person can do it in an hour spending a large part of that just taking off the seat. These are one of the easiest machines I have worked on for this sort of operation. Send away for a readily available Allis Chalmers HD4 manual & you'll have the clutch pack out in no time. I never found a 650 series reprint manual..... The HD4/easy to find ($30) manual works fine....

Hey Jeff, I'm with Bob on this one dont know this particular machine but do you know if it is wet or dry clutches it sounds like the classic case of dry steering clutches getting stuck together after sitting a while, but then again I cant remember any dry clutch machines having just pedal steer.

Don't know much about FAT ALICES but if you can steer one way the steering pump is working (assumeing it is hyd boosted). Check linkages or whatever you can see. Then you have to look inside but we hope not.
All I can help, but it's a start till someone who knows comes by.
Bob
