The HD 5's were good little machines. The 2 cyl. Jimmy diesel would Roar all day. The engines do leak oil some, inherent problem with all 71 series G.M. engines, but nothin' to worry about. Just make sure it starts up O.K.. Don't want to use too much ether. Check color of anti-freeze in radiator. Should be nice and green. Does master clutch knuckle in O.K.. Does it steer to the right and left without too much effort with foot and hand. Check tracks; pins and bushing, condition of sprockets, rollers and idlers. How is cutting edge on blade? Check the oil level of the final drives. The final drive oil fill caps and located at the bottom of the final drive housing, right and left sides, below the fuel tank. They are just above the drawbar. They have a square hex, either 1/2" or 3/4". Just pull these caps off. The oil should be right at that level. Many times. in older machines, the sprocket shaft seals go bad and the seals leak and the oil in the final drive housing runs out. To repair these seals is a MAJOR job. If you need any other info, just E-mail me, Phil
