I just bought this little dozer and I really like it but the blade is busted up to where it just is'nt useable ,theres two big cracks vertical about 18" in from each side all the way down,so you cant control the blade from scalping back and forth. My question is what is the best way to weld it up.Should I just grind it out and build it up or would a 4" plate welded over the bad spot be better, I am open to all suggestions

It depends on your budget. In the past I have picked up scrap mild steel 1/4"x 10"w x4'L plate starting at the bottom of the blade,(make sure to leave enough room for new cutting edge replacement)tack the pieces in at the bottom and using a 10 or 12 lbs.hammer hit the plate until it takes the form of the curve in the blade and weld it in place.Trust me it's not as hard as it sounds, but make sure its hot rolled mild steel plate. Not too pretty but effective.

the front of the blade is pretty descent now that the cracks are welded up and ground back ,I would like to do most of the work on the bottom and the back since the front of the blade is the only descent looking part of the blade.I had concidered plating the ribs on the back side if more strenghth is needed. also I need a grille and a radiator. thanks

I would grind it out and weld it from both sides with the final pass on the front using hard surfacing rod. Adding a 4" fish plate on the back side would probably help.

so far I've burned up almost a whole bottle of oxygen and a good pair of boot laces.I had to cut off three layers of old grader blades welded on the bottom behind the cutting edge.Theres a sort of tube or chamber behind the cutting bar and thats what the whole blade gets most of it's strength from ,(it's like the difference between twisting a piece of flat steel and twisting a piece of pipe that weighs the same)I ordered a 10'piece of new 1/2" flat steel 8" wide to rebuild the bottom with.65$
it's amazing how badly the blade is busted up and the tractor is nearly perfect.
I'm always open for suggestions. thanks
