Hello all, my brother has his mind made up to buy this machine. Since I'm the guy who is going to have to fix it when he breaks it, I wanted to get some of your opinions about this model. It's a 1969 933g a one owner with 6000 hours, needs paint bad but it runs good.

My 933's a little older. There are quite a few parts that Cat no longer supplies, like the reverser gear. I'm happy with the performance but if I didn't have a machinist friend I'd have retired the tractor. I've been told the final drives always leak but I haven't experienced it. I hope you got a repair manual. The shifting mechanisms interconnect and must be adjusted correctly. I also sprung for $60 to get an owners' manual printed up. It pointed out 3 grease fittings I might well have never found any other way. Tough tractors with a little care. Good luck.

Hi Ralph,
Mine spent several years in a shed (surprisingly good condition), not from Ebay. Long drive to northern NJ for an old tractor.

Mine's a gp bucket. I also have an old parts manual that mostly tells me what part to find out Cat no longer supplies. Good luck if you ever want to find out what the thickness of new steering brake bands are. Mine didn't get replaced but I got quite a few emails and phone calls from Cat and the Va. (only-monopoly) dealer. One thing I did learn was that my 2-3 qt/day oil consumption WASN'T excessive. Cat people here are tickled to find out I use mine commercially but I'm pretty sure I make a LOT more money than the guy who spent (borrowed) the money for a new one.

My latest misfortune was hiring a local co. (not the dealer) to rebuild the tranny. $5000 and 18 hours later I was into it myself. Fine now. Beware who you hire. For anybody in Va., my misfortune was using LE Woods in Fishersville. Found out later they don't fix their mistakes. Custom double gears don't come cheap and I had to have it made a second time after LE Woods left loose bolts and two roller bearings in the tranny case. Don't think about going into the tranny without the repair manual in one hand. Good luck with yours. Mine's done a lot of work and isn't done yet.
