I purchased a 1980 580c two weeks ago. The seller replaced (?) the solenoid on the starter & it turned over and started well. Something happened, it does not turn over.Lights work. Maybe a wire is off? How many little wires go to the starter solenoid. I have a manual on order, but I would like to use my digger now. Any Help?

I know this is off topic but I am looking at a ?70's 580 with a bad motor (owner thinks injector pump) and a friend said that some models of case you just can't get engine parts for. Am I getting bad info? The case broke about 4 years ago and hasen't moved since. Sitting out side and I dont know if it is seized. Would I be out of line to offer $1000? Good tires cylinders are rusty but not real bad needs bushings on outrigers cant tell on others. no turbo homemade exaust manifold 90 min drive to home. Oh and on the red line thing! you sure your tac is reading right and that your linkage is ok? A neibore kept putting big $$$ into his race car but always did poorly till I stopped buy and took a look at the throtle with him holding foot to the floor. Butterfly was still 1/4 closed!!! He couldn't control the car after the linkage was adjusted. too much power for his skills. LOL Big shot enginers who had helped him were so red in the face that dumb asp farm boy cought their problem first thing.

Jeff, my 1977 580C has a has a circuit breaker mounted on the engine block behind and just above the starter. One of the solenoid wires goes to it. I've had problems with bad connection there.

If it was working OK and it doesn't click at the solenoid you may have a neutral start switch that isn't working right. There should be a wire that goes from the starter button to the neutral start switch, then to the solenoid. Sometimes the lights can still work but are not as bright as they should be with a bad connection at the battery or the ground.

check voltage at solenoid wire with a bulb or testor, get some to crank or use a long jumper wire
