This is probably an easy question given the experience out there, but if it's not too much to ask I have a D6C question. My Caterpillar Performance Handbook lists the D6C76A at 120HP and the D6C10K at 140HP. Other then the horse power difference,(was that just adding a turbo charger)? what other significant differences were there between the two? How's the parts interchange? It would seem that Cat wouldn't release a new model without a few more improvements. Thanks, Gene

I have not worked on either unit for about 8 years but I still can give some information without doing some research. The D6C-76A has a D333 engine (4 1/2" bore) verses the D6C-10K has a 3306 engine (4 3/4" bore). These are two seperate engines, (different crank, block, head, water pump, and etc). Some of the Cat. Industrial 3306 engines were called D333 engines (4 3/4 Bore) but were the same engines used in the D6C 10K's. There are not many (main) parts on the two engines (76A-D333 & 10K-3306) that are interchageable. The 10K's (low serial numbers) did not have turbos. They were usually called low-horespower D6C10K's. The 10K's have had several changes in the fuel systems over the years. The rest of the powertrain is basic the same, but in buying parts you will have to ( in some cases ) go to a higher serial number. Both, 76A's &10K's, are good tractors.
