Lost our D2 chassis manual...about to rebuild steering clutches and cannot remember how track master pin comes out. Is it tapered and if so in which direction? Do we need to press it toward the body of the tractor or out away from it? Cat is an early model 5J.

i can tell you how i did my early 5j.locate masterpin.mine had what looked like a circle on the ends.the circles were the plugs in masterpin ends.measure to see which circle is smaller.drive the smaller one into center of masterpin(it is hollow)& drive it into other plug & completely out other side...some later ones had plugs the same size driven in from each end.measuring should tell you which one you have.the later plugs have to be drilled & tapped to pull out with a puller...then drive out masterpin...

Any I have seen have a center hole in both ends of them and can be driven either way. there are some older ones that had a tapered plug in them you need to remove first but I haven't seen any in the last 30 yrs.
