No offence intended if you work at a parts store. But, is it just me or is there a dummy test you have to fail to work at the parts house?I just moved here about two years ago and have had nothing but trouble with all the parts stores,4 of them,I'll not say where as not to offend anyone.Where I used to live I grew up with most of the people that ran the parts houses and when I needed something I either looked it up my self or they made sure the part was right. It seens like nobody cares, just give em some parts and get them out the door .I've found this at all the discount places,I expect that but at napa I expect top quality because I am paying for it,but not getting it..has anyone else seen a change in parts house attitudes?thanks ,just venting

When I was an apprentice 30 yrs ago the parts people could find you a replacement part that would do the same job .
That was 30 yrs ago now they can`t even find the original .

I know there are parts guys out there that when you bring in a seal with no numbers on it they wouldn't even know how to measure it with calipers let alone even want to take time out to try and find it, but then there's the guy who enjoys finding odd stuff and will help you every way possible, but not at the bigger parts stores. but the old books will be thrown out and some day will be gone. I have been working in a parts store for 25 years so i know all about things customers ask for.

you guys hit the nail on the head. it all sounds exactly like one of the parts stores in my area. we have one older parts house and those guys are good. the other one is a new franchise and them dummys could not catch a cold in a snowstorm.

A good secons place winner is the parts man who wants to play mechanic and give ubsolicited advice on how to install the part. If he is so smart why is he behind the counter rather than in the shop. Just give me what I have asked for and not try to inpress me with your expertise on mechanics.

I know what you mean! I used to work at a freightliner dealership in the parts dept. Had all kinds of people come in and ask for me because they knew that I Could help them. I was very interested in this job because my dad has trucks and I worked on them for him. I eventually left because of lack of good pay. I think if you are only willing to pay minimum wage you will only get people that are there till they find a better job. It seems that the good parts people around here don't stick with it. Tim

Just keep looking. I went into town (pop. 7000) and asked the small parts store if they could order distibutor cap, rotor, condenser, points for an old tractor (1958 IH TD-9). He went in back and pulled out a equipment catalogue. Found the tractor, and punched it all in on the computer. Found all of them, and had them shipped in here in two days. Was quite impressed.
