My D6d Cat dozer won't turn left. We just put a hydralic pump on it, and this started soon thereafter. Its not that the steering clutches are worn (it tracks straight, etc.), its more like the left clutch won't disengage. Any ideas? (Linkage? Clogged valve?) P.S. Hydralic pressure shows good. Thank you.

Doug first check that the linkage is okay then take off the rear cover for the pto and check the bevel gear bearings,(pry bar between bevel gear and case wall)if the bearings fail the shaft can get off centre enough to wear the bore of the bearing cage and blow out the flange seal rings. You said you put on a hyd pump. You don't mean a trans pump do you? Also look in the magnetic screen for nardnarvels( ground up metal) then change the trans filter and cut it open check that too if the screen is not too bad.Come on back with what you find.

Doug, If you are getting your clutch release pressure on the LH clutch pressure tap then your problem has to be some where further down stream. Basically once you activate the steering clutch control all you are doing is sending pressure oil to the release piston which in turns compresses the springs in order that the clutch will release. I ran across a similiar problem years ago and I found that some one had installed a sleeve in the steering clutch hub and it did not have enough interference fit and it turned in the housing covering the oil inlet hole. I hope this is of some help to you.
