I just picked up a John Deere 440 I at an auction. It has what I believe to be a JD 71(?) loader and a Sherman 54(?) backhoe . My first question for the group is this: the hoe seems very "choppy" on the way down. All the other fuctions seem to work fine. But when the "Arm" drops down...it is so fast that when you stop it ,the front wheels come off tthe ground. Any sugestipons??? Also I can't find anywhere to get manuals for the Shermal hoe. In fact finding ANY info on the 440 is tuff . I assume that there is a Agricultural model for this tractor. Any help on this ...I thank you in advance. Thanks, Jeff Rose

There was no agricultural version of the 440. All industrial-a first for Deere. It does share many mechanical parts with the agricultural 420 and 430.

I have a website about the JD industrials, including the 440. Try the link below.

I don't have anything for a Sherman backhoe.

Is your tractor a wheel tractor? Gas or diesel? Would it be possible for you to send pictures?

You should be able to order operators manuals, parts manuals, and service manuals for the tractor from your local Deere dealer.

Good luck with your new tractor,
Brandon
