Can anyone tell me how much of a job it is to replace steering clutches on a IH500C dozer. I've never done this before and wonder if I should tackle it. What's involved? Thx for any help

Not that big of a job on the early ones, no special tools needed. pulling pinions is easy, you won't have to pull sprockets or finals, clutch packs come out the top, manuals are a must, parts are available, metal drive disc are pricey, fibre disc are interchangable with early John Deere crawlers, email me for more info.

Dave,

I've not replaced mine but my brake bands need replacing. I have the service manual and can copy the relevant pages for you and e-mail them if it would be of help. Looks like a fairly big job because you have to pull the final drive pinon shafts out. 16 steps according to the manual. Do you have a source for parts for the steering clutches and brake bands?
