Does anybody know what kind of compression reading I should get form the c248 engine on my T6 if it were new or rebuilt? Is there a minimun acceptable reading that would indicate that it's time to rebuild or do the four cylinders just need to be reasonably clse?

Thanks, Jeff

new or rebuilt should be in vicinity of 135-150 p.s.i..All cylinders should be within 15-20 lbs of one another.Older engines should give 90-100 psi.Engines down to 60-70 can be tested by giving a couple of squirts of oil in bore, and testing again. If readings come up 15-30psi ,then rings are getting weak.

Pete, Thanks, for the reply. I was a little concerned because I initially checked the compression while hand cranking. I know that's probably not good but the starter was out at the time. I have since replaced the starter and got better readings. Three cylinders read 135 and one at 140 now. The engine seems to run strong but before I got one at 100, two at 60 and one at 10. This seems like it would indicate a slow leak??

Thanks, Jeff
