This 1974 Fiat-Allis 7G Series B runs great and works fine for about 30 minutes. It seems when the transmission oil starts getting hot it won't engage in 1st foward. Shifting into 2nd then back to 1st sometimes works but that even quits working after awhile. Both reverse gears work fine. It has a speed shift and I've checked all the linkages and they seem fine. There are two metal oil lines runing from the control valve to the bottom front of the tramsmission. One of these is kinked about half closed. Could this cause the problem?

I have the same unit with a simular problem, I lose the steering neutralizers first , then if you keep working it, I lose the ability to go forward or reverse. I need some help and a manual.!!

It sounds like your fowward clutch is leaking could be the seal rings on the collector shaft or the seals on the piston since it woprks fine in rev. loww and high that eliminates the the rev, low and high clutches. the high and low use the same clutches in forward and reverse. some of the lines do go from the shifter valve to the clutch packs so I would repair the line. The collector rings can be gotten to from the outside on the front cover they should have 2 lines going into them. they are steel seal rings and unless the are broken they are probally are not the problem. Fix the line check the pressures first. you will most likley have to pull the trans. and redo it.I have a manual and have rebuilt several of them let me know if you need help I will walk you thru the pressure test. Aaaahhh yes an old Fat Alice, do you have a service manual for it? If so you need to take some psi readings hot and cold to see if there is a great difference, powershift clutch packs dont like to slip and they wont take it much.

MA, I don't know much about fatallis's but I think you have a leak on the clutch piston seals. If this has just happened you might just have to reseal the trans, but if you have spun the 1st speed clutch much you will need new discs and plates. Remember 1st forward is the hardest working gear you have.
Later Bob
