Is anyone familiar enough to give a brief wireing overview of the starter, battery configuration, ignition (mag) charging ( 28 volt generator) system on a TD-20.Not interested in any options only trying to get it started on gas right now. Note: I have given it one go all ready and it turns the engine over but quite slowly ( two 750/cca 12 volt batterys hooked up in paralell) and not getting any spark out of the mag ( have made sure it is not grounded on manifold). Thanks.

The slow cranking and NO mag spark indicates that the batteries are NOT wired correctly. For 24 VDC series: On the first battery, connect the NEG post to (a good,BARE) ground, connect the POS post of the FIRST battery to the NEG POST of the second battery, then run the POS post of the second battery DIRECTLY to the starter with NEW, 200 amp Copper welding cable (available everywhere). Now you've got 24 V D.C at 750 AMPS!! In a series battery connection, the VOltages adds together, but the CURRENT (AMPS) is the LOWEST of the two (or more) batteries. 750 Amps IS NOT enough current to start that dozer in very cold weather, unless the charging system is in top-notch condition.GM-Delco makes a 1000 AMP+ 12 VDC battery that's comp priced to the Sears Diehard.

While we are on the subject, I have a elec start pony with a generator on a D45T. The regulator is missing and there is not 1 wire left on this cat.
I have a pretty good idea, but a scematic would be worth a bundle to me.
Thanks Mike

If the batteries are hooked up correctly, check to make sure the third valve is opening thus reducing the C.R.

not famillar with those...BTW,you want to hook up those batteries in series to get 24volts....hooked in paraell all you get is 12volts(why it only turns slow)...paraell=pos to pos & neg to neg...
