Hello, I have been admiring old tractors for many years, and for about the last Four years have been enjoying my own growing collection of older farm, and industrial tractors from the forties and up into the early fifties. The four tractors I currently own are all "wheeled" tractors on rubber. I have had my eye on an old crawler that has been sitting in a lot for sale for some time now, it is a Caterpiller "Fifteen" that looks to be complete, but I dont think has ran for years. I have become pretty handy in doing repairs to my wheeled tractors, and can accomplish most any repair needed to restore working order. I was wondering if any of you folks had any experience with these old Cats regarding parts availability, or track and under carraige repair. Can the average collector do repairs to a crawlers drivetrain with basic tools? or are these tracked classics best left for the hardcore restorer? What are important points to examine before purchasing, and lastly, any Ideas as to the value or worth of a Cat Fifteen, in running or non running condition????? This is yet another new experience to me, I would be greatfull for any information on this,Thanks....Tom

CATS can get exspensive fast. I have had several
cat 15`s over the years, if the under-carriage
is worn badly[sprokets,rollers,pins,bushings]
dont bother with it unless you have lots of money to throw away. You can get up in the thousands
of dollars replacing under-carriage.Also crawllers
in general,[not just cats] every thing is big and heavy to work on,be ready to buy lots of bigger tools.Rubber wheel tractors are much easier to work on. just my two cents worth.
