I am looking to get a track hoe next spring. I am looking for a machine in the 45,000 to 55,000 # range. Any comments on the older (mid 1970's to early 1980's) 690 Deere vs A 235 Cat?

You Must mean a Cat 225, a 235 is a 88,000# machine. Cat's are good But Deere has been in that business longer and has a good name too, and parts are cheaper!!

I did mean a 235. some adds I saw said it was a #55,000 machine and a 225 was about #45,000. It was the first time I saw a wieght for these models. Maybe the add was wrong. What do you think a 225 should wiegh in at? My old lowboy is a 27 tn, and I want to get a machine that will not overload it. Thanks, Joel

Joel, A JD 690D (1990ish) weighs about 40,000 so the Cat is definately heavier. The JD 790 is 53,000. This may be more in keeping with what you have in mind and a better comparison with the Cat 225. I do know that the Cat 225 is quite a bit bigger than the 690 size wise. The JD's are hitachi under the yellow paint which isn't really a bad thing. Hope all this babbling helps.

The 225 is about 52000# the 235 is 85,000# They vary a little depending on options like bucket style and dipper length.

Thanks for all the good info. Looks like the 235 is too much for me.
