I think I'm gonna bite the bullet, and buy a new Ford this week. My question is can the F350 supercab 1 ton pull my John Deere ocassionaly?
I am not looking at the dually, I live on a very narrow winding road. I think I will look at the diesel with 3.73 rear, for fuel economy. I need this truck to haul my stuff and my kids from time to time. My dozer weighs 11,000 lbs. I also need to pick up a trailer. Should I look at the goosenecks? thanks for the suggestions

The truck will do it no problem.I have gone up to 15,000# and still had power but stopping is another thing .and with single wheels you'll need to keep the speed way down tire sidewall flex can whip you and your rig upside down in a ditch real quick.as far as legality of hauling overloaded screw em .when I have to haul a big illegal load I have my wife go on ahead with her cell phone and let me know what is a mile or so ahead. thats what I do ,but I'm just a hick

has anyone thought about the fact that to legaly tow anything over 10,000 gvw you need a class A CDL( same as a tractor trailer). i bet most of you dont and i never see this come up in any disscussion about trailers. i admit that i have towed more than 10,000 with my ford 600 so i am wrong too, but i feel we should atleast mention and warn some of the people buyin these huge goosneck rigs.

In Washington state, if its for farm use,
you dont need a CDL.

I have a class A anyways, because
I think to run this stuff, you
oughta have one.

Most states are different on the class A. I have a class A [ none comercial, none air brakes] This is not the same as a tractor trailer. All it does it lets me opperate larger trucks with a higher weight limit,up to 26,000lbs. But I also have gone over this limit.

I found out that you had to have a CDL way back when this all started , got stopped the nightb before the cdl went into affect i was hauling one of two 706's that i had bought out in Indiania and was less then 10 miles from the house when the big bear came after me and stopped me and the first thing that he looked at was the gross weight of the trailer then the gross weight of the truck and my combined weight is 29000 so he told me that i could no longer drive my truck and trailer till i updated my licence , all i had to do was take the test as that i had a chauffers licence and had had it for may years and many miles . And since then Ohio has been having a feild day on the ones that get caught with out , and in some states you must also have all the safty equip. as in a large car ( big truck) and also you must have a D.O.T. medical card and drug test. if they want to push it And you may also need a ICC MC no.and pay axel mile tax.

I checked with the North Dakota state patrol before I bought my new trailer to see what the regulation were. As long as the GCWR, the gross combination weight rating of the trailer and pickup combined do not exceed 26,000 lbs., and you are not engaged in commerce or hauling for hire, and you do not weigh over 26,000 loaded, you do not need a CDL. But, if you cross the state line, you are subject to all of the other regulations, such as medical card, DOT number, log book, and any safety regulations.
GVW on my pickup is 9200, trailer is 16,500, so that keeps me under 26,000, but I would not be able to put it on a 1 ton pickup with a 10,000 GVW or I would be over.
As far as hauling a 350, I have hauled a b model loader with 3 PT on both a heavy bumper pull, and a fifth wheel, but I never leave unless the brakes are working correctly. It is not getting the load going that is the problem, it is stopping in a hury that is.

steve I have a 99 350 ford and 350 dozer and single tandem goose neck. Truck is 5.4 gasw/410 rear and single axel. I had the breaks upgraded on the trailer so i can get stopped. It hauls it perty good.

SteveB:
I will ditto that the Gooseneck is the way to go. And I would suggest a dual tandem trailer with a dovetail ramps. However, I would suggest that you look at a dual wheel truck for stability. If you are concerned about width look at a cab & chassis model as they are almost a foot more narrow than a "Dually". I have a Chevy cab & chassis with a Gooseneck Brand bed and pull a 29' dual tandem. It is a very safe rig.
I have a 22' single tandem for sale if you are intrested.
Good luck, Sam

1 ton wont have any problems pulling the B, hauled mine with my 3/4 ton (turbo diesel) pulled it fine stopping it however was another thing as all the sudden my trailer brakes decided not to work fun,fun and yes go with the gooseneck.

I pulled a 350b loader and an HD4 ac and a 480f case TLB many miles wiht a one ton chevy with a tag trailer. no problems, but I'd use a goose neck trailer, pulls better, handles better, safer all around

My 2 cents on the idea:
Cent 1, A previous post in these forums said it best- A bad day with a gooseneck is still better than a good day with a bumper pull.....

Cent 2- Bought a Dynahoe 190-4 (4 wheel drive/19 foot hoe/huge )21,000 pounds 200 miles from home. A friend brought her home on his gooseneck with a 96 F350 7.3 Diesel. Making it over 50mph was no sweat & it did decent on the hills. The initial 20 feet/geting it rolling was a grunt but the Ford did FINE!!!! As we rolled past a local Ford dealer there were guys standing out front by the road looking at the new F350's. Told the guy driving he oughta stop in & I bet the dealer would pay him to just drive back & forth in front of the lot loaded like this is all day long...

Well, all this talk of haulling makes me want to chime in. In ND for farm use and within 150 miles of your farm, you can drive a real semi with a 80,000 GVW, with just a regular drivers license. I got a 400hp cummins in an 87 Freighliner with a 13 speed and a jake brake. No problems getting going or stopping with a 27 tn lowboy. I think I have about $10,000 in the rig. Works great to haul my D6 9U around. (I do have a 42' hopper for the farm too). The point is you can get a big rig fairly cheap for your personal use if you need to haul more than once or twice a summer.
