Thanks for all the advice.

The good news is that I can turn the drum by hand.

The not so good news is it won't come out.

Is there a lip or something in there preventing it from lifting out. The break band rusted through & can't be used for lifting. I made a metal strap to go around the drum to lift with.

Thanks

On an HD7. I dont know if a HD5 is the same. You must pull the final drive pinion on the side away from the clutch being pulled to let the shaft in the bevel gear slide over to get the clutch out.

Question: When I pry back the flanges I see a Lip, How do I get past the lip when there isn't enough side to side play. This feels like one of those games where you have to get the small ring over the big ring.

Hello, What I think has happened is that the steering clutch assembly is stuck and will not move into the brake drum. You must move the steering clutch assembly into the brake drum to get past the lips on the driving hub. The steering clutch assembly is bolted to the driving hub which is closest to the center of the machine. You must try to get a very small porto power cylinder or a set of duck bills for the porto power. Jack against the final drive case and the steering clutch assembly. Hopefully this will push the S.C. assembly in enough for you to lift the steering clutch out. One other way we've done this is to get a large bolt and a deep nut, like a track nut. measure the distance between the case and the S.C. assembly. Get a bolt about that length. Screw the nut down on the bolt so the threads of the bolt are just showing. Put the bolt between the case and S.C. asembly, and start to turn the nut OFF. This may sound difficult. With some patience and a few colorfull words, you should be able to move it in enough to get the S.C. out. Good Luck! Phil
